Ontario corrections officer pleads not guilty: Defense attorney says charges are ‘stretched’
A corrections officer from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has pleaded not guilty on Monday to eavesdropping and official misconduct charges. Adam Broadwell, 44, was taken into custody last week, accused of using a hearing device to listen in on conversations at the county courthouse, where he worked as a security personnel. Broadwell’s defense attorney, Clark Zimmermann, said he was “confused” and did not comprehend the allegations. “It’s no different than putting a cup up against the wall,” Zimmermann said following that court appearance. “The entire eavesdropping device charge and the eavesdropping allegation itself are stretched, in my opinion.”
Siena Poll shows overwhelming support for higher income tax on millionaires, judges discretion on bail
New York State voters have expressed overwhelming bipartisan support for two budget proposals being debated. According to a recent Siena College poll, 76% of registered voters support raising income taxes for those earning at least $5 million, while 72% support giving judges more discretion to set bail for serious crimes. The majority of voters also support banning flavored tobacco and providing fiscal incentives to municipalities that meet increased housing goals.
