Officials say the shelter could become a statewide model and is expected to open by spring 2026.

An 82-year-old driver was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital after running a stop sign and causing a two-car crash in the town of Potter on Saturday morning. Irene Jamieson and her passenger, Kevin Duross, both sustained injuries, while the other driver was unhurt. Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Emergency crews rescued a family, including a child, stranded near an island in the Canisteo River on Saturday. The Bath Fire Department’s swift water rescue team assisted in bringing the group to safety, and the child was transported to St. James Hospital in Hornell. The New York State Police are investigating the incident.
Fire rips through home in Steuben County
A fire broke out Sunday afternoon at a home in the Village of Savona, quickly spreading from the garage and engulfing the residence. Multiple fire departments responded to assist Savona crews in battling the intense blaze, which was already shooting from windows upon arrival. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no injuries have been confirmed.
