Experts and community members will gather on June 25 in Canoga for a free conference addressing the growing threat of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Cayuga Lake. Hosted by the Cayuga Lake Watershed Network, the event will feature scientific presentations on bloom trends, satellite monitoring, and microbial tracking efforts aimed at improving water quality. Organizers emphasize the urgency of the issue, citing record-breaking bloom activity in 2024.
Downtown Auburn is seeing a surge of new activity with the arrival of four new businesses ahead of the summer event season. New openings include Sew Enchanted Alterations, Love of Hauls Boutique, Flight in Time Studio, and the upcoming Hideout Gaming Center. Ontario County officials are urging the public to oppose the parole of Gregory Flint, who was convicted of murdering 8-year-old Staci Ackerman in Farmington in 1986. District Attorney James Ritts and Ackerman’s mother, Sue Ann Cross, announced that over 9,500 people have signed a petition to keep Flint behind bars. They hope public pressure will prevent his release and honor the memory of a child whose loss still haunts the community.
