How safe is it to eat fish caught in Seneca Lake?
On its face that might seem like the simplest question one could ask. But the answer is complex. Far more complex than most who call the Finger Lakes home realize. Recent testing has confirmed that Seneca Lake fish are highly contaminated with PFAS "forever chemicals." Water Front Founder and Reporter Peter Mantius broke the latest reporting, which came at the culmination of state and SUNY-ESF data, showing the levels of contamination in certain fish.
New York State finally has a budget.
State leaders have reached a final budget agreement after a month-long negotiation process, which included contentious debates on issues such as housing, climate goals, and illegal marijuana sales. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie praised the budget, stating it might be the best non-pandemic budget he has seen during his 23 years in the Assembly, despite some compromises.
Auburn cannabis facility with promise of 100 jobs dead after state delays.
A Colorado company has decided it won’t build a cannabis production facility in Cayuga County. Terrapin was expecting to build a facility in Auburn that would have created around 100 jobs, according to reporting by The Citizen. However, that same reporting cited ‘painful delays’ in the launch of New York’s legal cannabis industry. A rep for the company told The Citizen that delays have made it ‘impossible’ to move forward. They had planned on building a facility in the city’s Technology Park, which would have cost $20 or $30 million.
