Rushville man faces criminal charges after standoff, holding woman hostage earlier this month.
A Yates County man has been charged following a lengthy standoff with police earlier this month, during which he allegedly held a woman captive. William Morgan, Sr., 63, of Rushville, is accused of assaulting the victim, a resident of the town of Potter, threatening her life, disabling her phone, and preventing her from leaving a Rushville residence on April 3. Morgan was arrested on Tuesday at Clifton Springs Hospital, where he had been detained since being taken into custody. He now faces charges of criminal mischief, unlawful imprisonment, aggravated harassment, and harassment.
Cameras in construction zones will automatically catch speeders on Thruway.
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul’s office has announced the implementation of an automated construction zone speed monitoring pilot program on several state highways. The initiative, which is a collaboration between the New York State Department of Transportation and the New York State Thruway Authority, aims to enforce speed limits in highway construction and maintenance work zones.

Newark man guilty in stabbing.
There’s been an outcome in a high-profile court case following a stabbing near a Newark bar in 2021. District Attorney Mike Calarco announced that a Wayne County Court jury found Jermaine A. Harrison guilty of first-degree assault on Friday. The conviction, a class B felony, carries a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
Rose City Drive-In will get new life in Wayne County.
Paul Cole, a lifelong resident of Newark, has acquired the Rose City Drive-In property at 5418 Rt. 31 with plans to reintroduce movies and other entertainment to the community. The original 100-by-45-foot screen remains intact, and Cole has already begun investing in the property to prepare it for a new generation of families. The long-vacant facility will see a new concession stand, restrooms, a modern digital projection system, and other amenities added, with the goal of opening by spring 2024. The revamped drive-in will showcase blockbuster movies and host events aimed at expanding recreational options for the Wayne County region.
No injuries, Seneca Falls home saved thanks to quick work of first responders.
First responders quick action is credited with saving a home on Spruce Lane from further fire damage in the town of Seneca Falls early-Tuesday. Around 4 a.m. Seneca County 911 dispatched firefighters and police to a house with smoke inside on Spruce Lane. While crews were en route, they were advised that the occupant had safely gotten out of the home. There were determined to be a fire in the chimney area. Firefighters from Seneca Falls, Waterloo, and Fayette worked quickly at the scene ensuring that it did not spread.
