Newark PD strategizing to combat staff shortages, recruiting challenges in light of national trends
In response to national trends, the Village of Newark Police Department (NPD) is experiencing staffing difficulties, with one vacant position and several officers injured or leaving. The vacancies amount to an unavailable 42% of patrol staff. Mayor Taylor and Police Chief Martin issued a statement highlighting the gravity of the situation, noting that ongoing efforts to recruit a certified and trained officer to fill the vacancy have been unsuccessful so far.
Watershed Brewing Company set to host grand opening next weekend
Watershed Brewing Company is set to introduce its signature craft beer experience to the Finger Lakes region with the grand opening of an expansive new brewery and taproom. Occupying 11,000 square feet on the northeastern side of Seneca Lake, the grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, July 22.
Ontario County braces for more rain on Thursday: Sandbags available for residents
Ontario County leaders are bolstering flood defenses as they prepare for another round of heavy rainfall, mere days after some areas of the county experienced significant flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch, effective from 8 a.m. Thursday, for Ontario and Wayne counties, triggering county emergency operations teams to review and enact contingency plans. County Administrator Chris DeBolt said teams are conducting extensive preparatory work including debris removal from waterways, clearing culverts, and ensuring storm basins are prepared to handle potential floodwater. Additionally, sandbags are being made available for residents at the Canandaigua City School District Administrative Building from 10 a.m. Thursday.
