Wildfire smoke should start to subside later today
The Finger Lakes is once again experiencing a haze from wildfire smoke, with the primary sources being numerous active fires across the western provinces of Canada and Quebec. This smoke is causing a noticeable degradation in the region’s air quality, particularly impacting those in lower atmospheric areas or near the ground. However, according to recent model guidance, the dense smoke is expected to start clearing up later today and gradually dissipate throughout Wednesday, particularly in the afternoon.
Police searching for Ithaca man who assaulted pregnant woman after road rage incident
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office has issued a public appeal for assistance in locating Anthony R. Cruz, a 25-year-old male suspect wanted in connection to an assault on a pregnant woman. Cruz is accused of assaulting a pregnant woman on June 29 at a Dunkin Donuts located at 302 Pine Tree Road in Ithaca. According to the TCSO, Cruz, who is believed to be linked to other reported road rage incidents in the area and known to frequent Elmira is sought.
Thruway rest areas continue drawing frustration amid busy travel season
Just over two years since the New York State Thruway Authority announced plans to modernize their rest stop stations, the process has been met with varying reactions. Although ten of the projected 27 service areas have been rebuilt, fulfilling more than a third of the $450 million project, some users claim that these new facilities still require significant improvements.
