NWS: Microburst, not a tornado, caused severe damage in Tompkins County
The destructive aftermath of Monday night’s storm in the Town of Enfield, west of Ithaca, was the result of a microburst, not a tornado, says the National Weather Service in Binghamton. The storm’s straight line winds, estimated to peak at 100 mph, are believed to have destroyed two barns, uprooted numerous trees, and created a divergent path of downed trees in the eastward direction of the storm.
Schuyler County administrator steps down, departure finally confirmed by officials
Schuyler County Administrator, Fonda Chronis, will be leaving his position on Friday, July 28, less than two years after taking up the role. This decision comes about two weeks after Chronis was placed on administrative leave for undisclosed reasons. According to officials, the decision was mutual.
Firefighters from Clyde, Oaks Corners respond to trailer fire on NYS Thruway in Seneca County
Oaks Corners and Clyde Fire Departments responded to a trailer fire on the New York State Thruway at approximately 10:12 a.m. on July 24. The incident, initially reported as a trailer hauling empty cardboard boxes, was near mile marker 326 westbound and later determined to be in Seneca County. Contrary to initial reports, firefighters discovered the trailer was filled with hundreds of sealed boxes containing packaged cigarettes.
