Schuyler County Administrator Fonda Chronis placed on administrative leave, website says position is vacant
Schuyler County Administrator Fonda Chronis has been placed on administrative leave, causing widespread speculation about the reasoning behind this decision. He was absent from the legislature meeting on July 10. He has also been removed from Schuyler County’s website. In Chronis’ absence, chief elected officer Carl Blowers, along with other legislators and department heads will assume his responsibilities.
Credit card skimming devices found at Geneva, Canandaigua Walmart stores
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into the discovery of credit card “skimming” devices at two more Walmart stores in the Finger Lakes region. Between July 2 and July 5, these illicit devices were found at stores located in Geneva and Canandaigua. According to information provided by store employees to the Sheriff’s Office, three individuals collaborated to install the skimming devices at a single point of sale card reader in each store. Geneva and Canandaigua Wal-Mart locations are now added to a list of stores where skimming devices have been found including Waterloo and the Southern Tier and Auburn where the device was in-place for four days.
RAPID RESPONSE: Cheshire FD overcomes Canandaigua flooding, assists electrocuted utility worker, trapped hikers, and collapsed home foundation
In a remarkable display of efficiency and dedication, the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department tackled a series of emergencies amid the devastating flooding that ravaged Canandaigua on Sunday. Within an hour the team responded to distress calls involving an electrocuted utility worker, hikers trapped by rising floodwaters, and a home foundation that had at least partially collapsed. All told, there were 48 calls for service in a matter of hours within the town of Canandaigua. The Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department is located in the south-west end of the community.
