PRIMARY ELECTION RESULTS: Who won? Who lost? Who will be on the ballot in November?
Voter turnout wasn't great on Primary Day, despite seeing some high-profile contests that will have a huge impact on the future of communities across the Finger Lakes. For reference, turnout was around 12,000 in much larger Monroe County, with several key races in places like Seneca Falls, Geneva, and Cayuga County District #1 garnering small turnout numbers.
Here are some key race results:
Alan Simmons defeated James Basile in the Republican Primary for Cayuga County Legislator in District #1.
Elizabeth Yockel defeated Heidi Barend-Guerrie in the Democratic Primary for Ontario County Clerk.
Jan Regan defeated Steve Valentino in the Democratic Primary for Geneva Mayor.
Frank Schmitter defeated incumbent Michael Ferrara in the Republican Primary for Seneca Falls Town Supervisor.
John Grow defeated Dan Majchrzak in the Republican Primary for Wayne County Judge.
Lyons man who’s cannabis businesses were raided by NYS in Cayuga, Wayne counties says he will fight it
The man who operates what the state describes as ‘unlicensed cannabis dispensaries’ in Cayuga and Wayne counties has been arrested. David Tulley, 42, of Lyons was charged with one count of obstruction after impeding an investigation by the Office of Cannabis Management and Department of Taxation and Finance from performing their duties. Meanwhile, The Citizen, who spoke with Tulley said he plans to fight the state on the matter. He had been sent cease-and-desist letters before the raids took place. They also reported previously that his locations were operating under the guise of being ‘marketing firms’.
