Body found by fisherman at Blind Sodus Bay: Troopers ask for public’s help
New York State Police are investigating after a body was found in Blind Sodus Bay in the town of Wolcott. During the afternoon hours on Thursday troopers responded to the area of Ingersoll Drive after fishermen reported finding a body along the shoreline.
New York bill would ‘level the playing field’ for utility customers
Groups advocating for older New Yorkers say a bill passed by the New York State Senate would help level the playing field for utility customers. Currently, when utilities go to the New York Public Service Commission to request a rate hike, they can apply to be reimbursed for items like expert witness fees and other costs associated with the proceedings.
Second suspect charged in May 3 incident at Love’s truck stop in Tyre
Seneca County District Attorney Mark Sinkiewicz said Lisbeth Collada was arraigned on Tuesday in Seneca County court following a grand jury indictment that included Jamie Avery Jr., who was the first suspect identified and charged earlier this month. Avery and Collada face the felony charges of attempted murder, attempted assault, arson and attempted arson.
Special election for Rep. Tom Reed’s seat will likely be in late July or early August
Reed, a Corning Republican who represented New York’s 23rd Congressional District, announced his resignation effective immediately on the House floor Tuesday, May 10. The New York State Board of Elections said Governor Kathy Hochul has 10 days from the date of Reed’s resignation to issue a proclamation for a special election.
Donation from Waterloo Container helps FLCC students finish year-long winemaking project
It’s the time of year when Finger Lakes Community College students head to the Viticulture and Wine Center in Geneva to complete their final practicum. Using bottles donated by Waterloo Container, the students’ year-long project culminated in an array of Riesling, Chardonnay, Rosé, Red and White wines now ready to be sold and enjoyed.

After surveying district residents, a special committee came up with Bears, Tigers, Wolves, or Wolverines. The state has been pressuring schools to drop Native American nicknames and mascots. Several Finger Lakes schools still have Native American nicknames, including Canandaigua Braves, Red Jacket Indians, and the Watkins Glen Senecas.
Fire at Hollerhorn Distilling in Naples destroys portion of building
Officials say the tasting room, bar and dining area were destroyed. A wall prevented the damage from extending to the distillery portion of the building. No one was in the building at the time of the fire. There were no hydrants nearby, so firefighters had to use tankers, as well as a pond on the property.
Lottery officials blame ‘human error’ after incorrect Mega Millions numbers published after May 10 drawing
“During the May 10, 2022 Mega Millions drawing, human error resulted in the incorrect input of the winning numbers in New York State, resulting in an incorrect publishing of the Mega Ball number,” officials said in a statement on Wednesday. “The New York Lottery is actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. The Lottery has temporarily suspended prize payments for all Mega Millions tickets and all Mega Millions players should hold on to their tickets for the May 10, 2022 drawing until the issue is resolved.”
