Historic hospital in downtown Newark gets new purpose: New housing units coming to St. Elizabeth.
A major project is moving forward in the village of Newark. The state’s Restore NY program is contributing $1 million to redevelop the historic St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, which will mean eight new housing units in downtown Newark. The hospital building is located in the heart of the downtown district, and has been vacant for over two decades. The proposed redevelopment includes a mix of housing to support the needs of the region’s workforce as well as economically disadvantaged residents.
Bath homeowners say they can’t afford thousands more in annual tax bills.
Property owners are frustrated in the town of Bath. Upset with how much property assessments increased countless residents turned out on Grievance Day. Officials in Bath said the process has left some feeling unsafe in their work environment, as frustrated homeowners reach their breaking point.
