UPDATE: One dead, another in stable condition after accident at Taughannock Falls.
A 26-year-old man from Syracuse was found dead in the water at Taughannock Falls State Park on Tuesday afternoon, according to New York State Police. Emergency response teams from several agencies, including Trumansburg Fire Department, Trumansburg Ambulance, and New York State Police from Ithaca, were dispatched to the site at approximately 4:30 pm. Upon arrival, the teams located three individuals near the base of the falls, one of whom required treatment by Trumansburg EMS after being rescued from the water.

Cayuga County extends emergency order over migrants: Hochul says decision on housing coming ‘very soon’.
Cayuga County has prolonged its state of emergency, aimed at prohibiting the influx of migrants and asylum seekers from New York State. The directive, extended by an additional five days, is a response to the county’s limited resources and the lack of communication between local, metropolitan, and state authorities. This decision aligns with sentiments in other Finger Lakes communities, such as Onondaga and Yates counties, that have instituted similar measures. In the meantime, Ontario County is slated to adopt a corresponding emergency order, following a committee endorsement earlier this week.
