Longtime Lyons furniture store will close later this year.
A longtime Lyons furniture store is shutting down. Herman Brothers, which has been at the center of Lyons’ downtown for decades, first opening in 1945. Owner Gene Herman, 70, spoke to the Finger Lakes Times about the closure, and said, “I’ve kept a huge amount of product in stock, so it’s a matter of liquidating it all, and I can’t tell you when it’s going to happen."
Town of Victor wants vacant Lord & Taylor space at Eastview Mall, so it can be redeveloped.
After multiple legal actions and appeals, the town of Victor held a public meeting on Monday to discuss plans to acquire the vacant Lord & Taylor space in Eastview Mall using eminent domain. The town would condemn the 8-acre parcel and its 90,000-square-foot building, which has been empty since February 2021.
New York State finally has a budget deal in place.
Governor Kathy Hochul and New York state lawmakers have reached an agreement on a $229 billion state spending plan, nearly a month after its initial due date. The budget will introduce changes to a controversial bail law, increase direct aid to schools by billions of dollars, and maintain current personal income tax rates.
RealEats cleared by NYS over layoff of 100+ workers: Company was ultimately granted exception.
RealEats has been granted an exception by the state Department of Labor, which means despite the company not submitting a WARN notice on-time, as legally required, they didn't have to because of extenuating circumstances. CEO Dan Wise said he was appreciative of the state's ruling. Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan had requested a state investigation into the closure.
