WINTER WEATHER: Snow returns to the forecast for Finger Lakes, prompting advisories and warnings

Wayne County considers stipend for employees to combat rising prices, inflation
County Administrator Rick House said the stipend targets lower-paid county employees, like those that earn about $16/hour, but current contracts require the county enact policies across all employees. The estimated cost of the stipend would be around $1.9M.
Local businesses offer cannabis products ahead of state licensing rollout
The New York State Office of Cannabis Management approved the first round of licenses for hemp growers last week, though retail licenses are yet-to-be announced. Some local businesses have already begun selling cannabis products despite not being licensed.
Wayne County officials urge high risk communities to mask-up after CDC elevates COVID risk from low to high
Health officials in Wayne County responded to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention risk level increase for COVID-19 community spread over the weekend. The update, which came late-last week, indicated that community transmission levels had increased from ‘low’ to ‘high’.
Love’s Travel Shops opens for business in Tyre
The latest Love’s location opened on Thursday, April 14, roughly a year after ground was broken for the project in spring 2021. The 11,000-sqaure-foot store is open 24/7 and offers numerous amenities, including 78 truck parking spots, 60 car parking spaces, seven RV parking spaces, and eight diesel bays.
Financial aid: FAFSA completion rate in New York still 5% below pre-pandemic levels
An education advocacy group aims to get more students financially on track for college. Analysis from The Education Trust-New York found the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion rate gap persists two years into the pandemic, particularly for schools serving students from low-income backgrounds.
