Make-A-Wish granted in Newark for 4-year-old battling Burkitt’s Lymphoma
A 4-year-old from Wayne County diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma had his Make-A-Wish dream granted. Calvin Stiner wanted to be a super hero. Make-A-Wish granted it by providing a series of fun events to make that dream come true.
Lawmakers give $10B tax break to microchip industry at Gov. Hochul and Sen. Schumer’s request
The New York State Legislature has given approval to $10 billion in last minute tax breaks for ‘green’ semiconductor manufacturing projects. According to the Times Union, opponents called the bill the largest, industry-specific tax break ever granted by lawmakers in New York.
Spongy moth: Ontario, Livingston, Yates counties could be hardest hit by invasive moth this summer
The spongy moth is coming back. Previously known as the gypsy moth, the nuisance is expected to return to New York this summer. Trees and foliage could be damaged as result of the passing. The spongy moth is an invasive species that caused damage to leaves and foliage in 2021. The caterpillars who morph into moths ate their way through local parks and backyards.

AAA: New York’s cap on gas tax helps brings prices down modestly, but will it get worse?
According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of gas continues rising. It’s up to $4.87, which is 25 cents higher than a week ago. It’s more than a $1.80 higher than a year ago. However, the state’s average gas price sits at $4.88, which is down 5 cents from what it was last week. As state and local leaders suspend gas taxes in New York- prices have begun dropping modestly. In the Rochester area, the average price of gas is down 10 cents per gallon. In Syracuse, it’s down 12 cents per gallon.
Gas tax holiday: Gas stations are breaking the law if they don’t pass savings along to customers
Gas prices have more than doubled in less than two years: Now, if gas stations don’t pass along savings provided by New York they are breaking the law. The gas tax holiday savings were rolled out slowly. According to those in the business of selling gas, station owners pay for gas up-front, which means savings can only be passed along when it’s less expensive for them.
29-year-old mother dies, 10-year-old suffers serious injuries after head-on crash between pickup truck, SUV
On Sunday around 8:35 a.m. troopers were dispatched to Route 12 in Rutland, Jefferson County for a pickup truck that crossed over into the oncoming lane- striking an SUV head on. The driver of the SUV, 29-year-old Robin Lieby, of Watertown was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 10-year-old son, who was in the back seat, was airlifted to a Children’s hospital in Syracuse.
Motorists reminded to ‘Move Over’ after police cruiser struck on I-81
An accident in the Syracuse area is prompting renewed discussion about the Move Over Law in New York. This comes after firefighters from Cicero responded to a crash Sunday morning involving two vehicles along I-81 near Route 31. Dispatchers said a police cruiser was stopped along the highway, when it was struck by another oncoming vehicle.
