Debate over agricultural commerce “brewing” in the town of Geneva
On Tuesday, the Geneva Town Board is expected to schedule a public hearing on a proposal to amend the town zoning code covering agricultural commerce. Geneva Town Supervisor Mark Venuti told us the change is not intended to allow any new activities, but is designed to codify the type of events that have already been taking place.

Canandaigua delays property revaluation, but residents could see sticker shock in 2023 if market doesn’t cool off
The Town of Canandaigua is delaying revaluation for another year. Property owners in Canandaigua won’t have their properties reassessed this year, according to officials. The town board decided against revaluation for two reasons. Supervisor Jared Simpson said Assessor Paul Arndt recently joined the Town team, so putting that responsibility on his office immediately would be a challenge.
Van Bortel to break ground on new Corvette showroom in Macedon
Van Bortel Automotive Group will break ground next week on a new six million dollar Corvette showroom on Route 31 in Macedon. Van Bortel says the family has always enjoyed selling Corvettes and she says the demand for both new and used models is strong.
Seneca Falls woman sentenced to prison after significant drug bust last year
A Seneca Falls woman who was arrested last year as part of a drug bust is headed to prison. Rachael Winfield, 38, of Seneca Falls was arrested alongside Daquan James, 25, in July after a search warrant was executed at their Mynderse Street home. Police recovered more than 60 grams of cocaine, 86 oxycodone pills, digital scales, and an electric stun gun.
Junius barn destroyed after fire on Saturday (video)
Motorists along the New York State Thruway in Seneca County reported seeing black smoke from the blaze, which destroyed the barn. Firefighters from Junius, Waterloo, Border City, Oaks Corners, Northside, Clyde, and Fayette all responded to the blaze.

21-year-old thrown from electric bicycle after collision with vehicle near Seneca Falls Walmart
According to a news release, around 2:20 p.m. the Seneca County 911 Center received a call reporting that a bicyclist was struck by a vehicle on North Road. They found that the electric bike was operated by 21-year-old David Vanhouten, of Waterloo, who was traveling west on North Road- when he attempted to pass a vehicle. The vehicle, operated by Parthenia Excel, 79, of Waterloo, then turned left into Walmart- striking the bicyclist.

n this episode, I talked with Derek and Stacy about Derek’s transition from a popular homebrewer to a microbrewery owner. They told us the story of how they traveled to the great beer regions of the world and decided to come back to Geneva to brew Belgian-style beer in a former sheep barn. The farm at one point grew to encompass 800 acres in Geneva. Katherine Bell Lewis endeavored to become a world-class sheep breeder and built a massive 15,000 barn complex in 1909 that was home to 2,000 Shropshire sheep. Regrettably, fires in 1912 and 1930 claimed much of the original Sheep Barn complex. What remains today is the home of Brewery Ardennes Tap Room & Kitchen.
