Back to the map drawing board, Court of Appeals throws out Democrat-drawn election maps
The state Court of Appeals has ruled the election maps drawn by Democratic lawmakers are unconstitutional. More details when they become available. The state’s highest court heard oral arguments Tuesday in a case that could throw the June primary elections into turmoil.
NYS Department of Health to end contract tracing this Friday
The last day of contact tracing will be Friday, April 29. Counties across the state have begun notifying residents that those who test positive for COVID or come in close contact to someone who has will not receive a call or text message after Friday.

NYS Assembly passes two-year moratorium on cryptocurrency mining, bill headed to Senate
The New York State Assembly voted on Tuesday to pass a law that would impose a two-year moratorium on proof-of-work cryptocurrency mining operations. Assembly Bill A7389C is now on its way to the state Senate. The legislation is sponsored by Assemblymember Anna Kelles (D-Ithaca).
Junius Ponds, Clifton Springs travel plazas along New York State Thruway won’t reopen until fall
What’s going on with travel plaza construction along the New York State Thruway News10NBC asked the state for an update on progress for local rest stops, which will be significant upgrades from their former sites. Junius Ponds in Seneca County is behind schedule. That one isn’t slated to open until the third quarter, or roughly September. For the Clifton Springs travel plaza it will be even later.
Double fatal Mercy Flight crash under investigation: Several agencies involved
A retired State Police and Army National Guard pilot was one of two people killed when a Mercy Flight helicopter crashed in Elba Tuesday. 60-year-old James Sauer of Churchville and 60-year-old Stewart M. Dietrick of Prosper, Texas were killed when the helicopter went down during a training exercise. Sauer spent 40 years with the National Guard. Dietrick was a flight instructor with Bell Helicopter.
Sheriff’s Institute soliciting honorary memberships to help send kids to camp on Keuka Lake
Letters are going out to Cayuga County residents this week, asking them to become honorary members of the NY State Sheriff’s Institute. The Institute aims to foster better relationships between law enforcement and youth. Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck tells about one of the ways the Institute accomplishes its goal.
