Mushroom company first to set up lab at Cornell AgriTech’s new coworking space
A company specializing in mushrooms is the first business to set up shop at Cornell AgriTech’s new coworking space at the Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture. Through their new lab operation, Empire Medicinals hopes to expand their commercial enterprise, forge new connections, and find innovative ways to utilize waste in the Finger Lakes region. Auburn School Board passes proposed budget, public will vote May 17
The Auburn School Board unanimously approved a nearly $90.3 million dollar budget for 2023 at its meeting Tuesday night. The spending plan includes a 2.5% increase in the tax levy, the total amount to be raised in taxes, but school officials say that number could be lower if the district receives more aid from the state, which has not yet passed its own budget.
Attempted robbery in Ithaca under investigation: Suspect demanded narcotics from CVS
Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a person who was involved in an attempted robbery at the CVS store in Ithaca. The suspect threatened to use a firearm during the incident, but fled prior to police arrival.

Bills, WR Stefon Diggs agree to four-year, $96M extension
Stefon Diggs will be staying in Buffalo for several more years. According to ESPN’S Adam Schefter, the Bills have signed the wide receiver to a four-year, $96 million contract extension, meaning Diggs will be playing for the Bills for the next six years.
Great Northern Mall closes for second time this year
The Great Northern Mall in Clay is closed once again, this time due to a power outage that only affected the mall. The mall’s owner Mike Kohan said the closure is related to issues with the electrical and sprinkler system, though some mall tenants, like Noal White of CNY Mac Store, are skeptical of this explanation.


Trial of former Geneva Middle School principal set for May
The trial of the Geneva Middle School principal facing misdemeanor charges for endangering the welfare of a child is scheduled for May. Jury selection for the trial of John DeFazio Jr. will begin on May 24.
Litigation against New York’s Board of Elections resolved
The National Federation of the Blind of New York State, American Council of the Blind of New York, Inc., Center for Independence of the Disabled, New York, Disability Rights New York, and several New York voters with disabilities, including Rasheta Bunting, Karen Gourgey, Keith Gurgui, and Jose Hernandez, have settled the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) lawsuit they brought against the New York State Board of Elections (NYSBOE) in 2020.
