Glenora Wine Cellars, the first winery on Seneca Lake, is up for sale for $10.8 million
Glenora Wine Cellars, the first winery on Seneca Lake, is up for sale after over 40 years under the same ownership. Now the Glenora winery, vineyard, restaurant and hotel are up for sale. Pierce and his partner Scott Welliver listed the 64-acre property on Route 14 for $10.8 million.

NTSB releases initial report on fatal Genesee County helicopter crash
The National Transportation and Safety Board released its initial report on the helicopter crash that killed two men during a training exercise in Elba last month. The Mercy Flight helicopter crash occurred on April 26 around 1 p.m. in Elba, Genesee County. Two men were on board the helicopter that took off from the Genesee County Airport in Batavia. James Sauer, 60, of Churchville and Stewart M. Dietrick, 60, of Prosper, Texas were killed when the helicopter went down during a training exercise.
Victor residents strike down proposal for new Victor-Farmington Library
Town of Victor residents struck down the proposed Victor Farmington Library project on Tuesday. The decision came in with 1,415 votes in favor of the proposed new facility and 3,256 against. “After dedicating over five years to researching a larger library, consulting experts, and evaluating options, we understand and respect the hard decision voiced by voters,” said Library Board President James Myers, according to WROC.
Geneva couple wins $42 million dollar settlement against city in foundry case
A Geneva couple has won a $42,175,000 judgment against the city over contamination at the former Geneva Foundry site. Todd and Linsdey Powers of Geneva sued the city, saying it didn’t tell them contamination from the former Geneva Foundry made the property they purchased on Wadsworth St. unfit for development. The Powers’ purchased a vacant lot next to their Wadsworth St. home. Their attorney, Steve Williams, said the city told the couple before they bought the land that it was safe for redevelopment.
Lyons alum Justice Smith announces transfer to East Tennessee State University
Justice Smith, who led the Lyons Lions to back-to-back sectional titles in 2018 & 2019, will play basketball at Division I East Tennessee State University next season. Justice, a 6-foot-6, 205-pound guard, was the rookie of the year in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference after averaging 20.6 points per game at Division II Mansfield University. He set the single-game school scoring record with 56 points against Bloomsburg.
Cayuga County expanding mobile mental health crisis services
Cayuga County is taking steps to expand mental health crisis services. The county legislature has approved the use of federal funds, and the county will contribute $80,000 for a daytime mobile crisis team. The city of Auburn will also contribute $80,000. The team will be staffed by workers from the Cayuga County Mental Health Center. Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck is pleased with the expansion, saying the presence of armed law enforcement officers in crises can sometimes escalate the tension.
RESULTS: School budget vote breakdown for the Finger Lakes
Voters across the Finger Lakes made their voices heard on Tuesday, May 17 during the statewide school voting day. According to a Wednesday release, the New York State United Teachers union reviewed 570 school budget votes and found 563 passed while seven failed, meaning 99% of budgets statewide were approved yesterday.
Wayne County: Investigation into assault of autistic teen in Newark coming to a close ‘very soon,’ say police
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office indicated arrests are imminent in the gang assault of a local autistic teen last week. “We were given this investigation just this past weekend. We have detectives on it,” said Sheriff Rob Milby. “We are having success with the investigation and plan to bring it to a close very soon.”
Syracuse man charged with attempted murder after shooting earlier this month in Seneca Falls
Police say a Syracuse man is facing an attempted murder charge in Seneca Falls after a shooting on Garden Street Extension. It happened on May 1, 2022, according to a news release from the Seneca Falls Police Department. Berain Winfield, 39, is accused of shooting multiple times at a 23-year-old who was ultimately not injured in the incident. Winfield was charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, reckless endangering, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal use of a firearm- all felonies.
