Canandaigua plane crash under investigation: Pilot ejects himself, airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital
The FAA and Ontario County Sheriff’s Office are both investigating after a plane crashed in Canandaigua. It’s unclear how serious injuries were — but the pilot — who managed to eject himself before the plane came to rest — was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital.
Will New York’s Puppy Mill Pipeline Bill encourage black market pet sales?
FingerLakes1.com Reporter Megan Hatch looks at the state’s new puppy mill law and how it might impact the black market sale of pets. Petland’s Vice President of Legislative and Public Affairs Elizabeth Kunzelman said 73% of sales from the Cicero store come from selling puppies. “You can’t take away 73% of a business’s revenue and expect them to just survive,” she said.
Auburn City Council imposes six-month moratorium on new smoke shops
The council wants more time to update zoning regulations concerning where and how such shops will be allowed to operate. Auburn City Clerk Chuck Mason says there have been several new shops opening up in the city. He says many of the operators seem not to understand how highly regulated those businesses will be, especially those that want to sell cannabis products.
Bear sighting in Yates County: DEC says keeping garbage in shed or garage good idea
Environmental officials say its a good idea to keep trash and garbage put away for the time being in places where bear sightings have been common. They’re on the move — and the most-recent sighting was in Yates County. Check out the photo below!
Split verdict reached in Bowman trial over brawl on Cayuga Nation property in 2020
A Seneca County man has been found guilty of one charge but was acquitted on another in connection with a brawl on Cayuga Indian Nation property in 2020. Charles Bowman of Fayette was found guilty in Seneca Falls Town Court of criminal trespassing, but not guilty of an assault charge. Bowman faces a sentence of up to three years in jail, one-year probation, and a $500 fine. He’ll be sentenced on September 28.

David Cirencione is running for Ontario County Sheriff. That isn’t ‘new’ news, but days away from Primary Day in New York- Cirencione is joining Ted Baker on Inside the FLX. The two discuss his campaign, the issues facing the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office- as it seeks new, long-term leadership, and what’s next for policing in general. Cirencione is a 20-year veteran of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office- and currently oversees the criminal investigations division as lieutenant.
Wayne County Supervisors to ask state for continued operation of Ginna Nuclear plant
The Wayne County Board of Supervisors is set to ask the state to include the plant and three nuclear plants in Scriba in New York’s carbon-free energy plan. The board was expected to approve at its Tuesday meeting a motion asking the state to include the plants in its Climate Action Council Scoping Plan and urging the state Climate Action Council to extend its zero-emission credit program. Those moves would extend the operating licenses of the plants by 20 years.
