Fire destroys Castle Mini Mart in Geneva
Firefighters from two counties were called in to battle flames at the Castle Mini Mart, which formerly housed the Big M grocery store. The building suffered extensive damage as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Congressman Tom Reed announces retirement, effective immediately
The 23rd District Republican made the announcement on the floor of the House Tuesday. He says he’s accepted a position working with Charles R. Black, Jr., the founder of Prime Policy Group. The firm does public relations work for the Republican party. Reed says he will also do other work for the GOP. After being accused of sexual misconduct by a female lobbyist and admitting to a past problem with alcohol, Reed announced he would not seek re-election in 2022.
Dr. Michelle Reed will be next Seneca Falls superintendent
The Seneca Falls Central School District has identified who will be the next superintendent. Dr. Michelle Reed, who currently serves as assistant superintendent in the Cairo-Durham Central School District, will succeed Jeramy Clingerman this summer. She will begin on July 1, 2022.
Auburn home destroyed by fire on Tuesday
Firefighters battled a residential structure fire in the city of Auburn on Tuesday, as well. The homeowners escaped injury, but the home was a total loss.
First responders battle vehicle fire in Sennett
First responders were called to a vehicle fire in the town of Sennett on Tuesday. It’s unclear what time the call came in, but photos from the scene showed a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. It’s not known at this time if the vehicle was parked when it caught fire, or if it was being driven.

The Spotted Lanternfly was first spotted in Pennsylvania in 2014. Since then, the species native to Asia has gone to affect agriculture across the U.S. The Spotted Lanternfly feeds on crops like grapevines and hops plants, which poses a major risk to the Finger Lakes region’s vast wine and beer industry. The species is not harmful to humans.
