Stunning flooding, wind damage across the Finger Lakes after storms and heavy rain.
While the severe thunderstorm threat didn't live up to the expansion nature the National Weather Service forecasted, the heavy rain and isolated strong winds were enough to wreak havoc on communities across the Finger Lakes. Utility poles were knocked over in Yates County, and countless photos and videos of flooding in Geneva, Seneca Falls, Waterloo, and Penn Yan documented the chaos. Public service workers and first responders were busy overnight being called to hundreds of flooded basements, and many roadways in the region remained damaged or impassable due to debris left behind by the flood waters early-Thursday.
Watkins Glen, Odessa-Montour school districts considering merger.
The Watkins Glen School Board discussed the possibility of merging with the Odessa-Montour School District at a recent meeting. While previous discussions have not gained enough traction, recent sports team mergers between the districts may have softened resistance. Superintendent Kai D’Alleva pointed out that the merger would aim to create greater opportunities for students rather than save money.
