Cayuga Nation files suit against NYS over gaming activity
The Cayuga Nation has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York after the New York State Gaming Commission failed to respond to two demands from Nation Counsel to stop unlawful gaming activity on the Nation’s Reservation land. The activity centers around the mobile app that’s gained popularity and allowed people to play state lottery games anywhere — including on land the Nation has in trust.

Three children were injured when a truck collided with their horse and carriage in Locke. The accident occurred on State Route 90 around 8:10 a.m., according to New York State Troopers who responded to the scene. Kristine Gardner, the Director of Schuyler County Veterans Service Agency, resigned on Thursday after a meeting with County Administrator Shawn Rosno, where she was confronted with allegations of failing to perform her duties. Gardner, who has been with the agency for five years and served as director for nearly one, was presented with a stark choice: resign or be dismissed based on claims of job performance issues outlined by County Legislature Chair Carl Blowers, according to The Odessa File. The New York State appellate court has ruled in favor of the town of Victor, granting it eminent domain rights to acquire the vacant Lord & Taylor space in Eastview Mall. RochesterFirst.com reports the decision ends over a year of legal disputes between the town, the mall developer Wilmorite, and Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC), the parent company of the now-bankrupt Lord & Taylor. On Wednesday Jorge “George” Rodriguez-Merced, a 30-year-old from Geneva entered guilty pleas to two counts of course of sexual conduct against a child, a class B felony offense, for sexually assaulting two children under 13 years old. Prosecutors said the attacks happened multiple times over a span of more than three months. His arrest on February 7 was the result of an extensive investigative effort by the Geneva Polcie Department beginning when one child disclosed the sexual abuse to a social worker at school in November 2023.
