TORN DOWN AFTER SPILL: A gas station in Clifton Springs was demolished after the DEC confirmed soil contamination at the site. Located at the corner of Kendall and West Main Streets, the station was torn down following reports of a gas leak or spill. The DEC stated that groundwater tests showed no new contamination.

THREATS TO WATER WORKERS: A Newark man has been charged with aggravated harassment after allegedly threatening to kill employees of the Wayne County Water and Sewer Authority during an irate phone call. EXCLUSIVE REPORTING: Four environmental groups have asked a Yates County Supreme Court judge to allow them to intervene in a lawsuit Greenidge Generation LLC has filed to try to block a state order to shut down the company’s electric generating plant in Dresden by Sept. 9. The groups have asked Judge Jason Cook for a hearing on their intervention bid on the morning of Aug. 28 in the Penn Yan court. That’s the day Cook has set as the deadline for court filings that “show cause” why he shouldn’t impose a preliminary injunction to suspend the order to close.
