EEE poses significant risks, with a 30% mortality rate in humans and potential for severe neurological issues in survivors, according to the CDC.
EXPANSION STEPS: Seneca Meadows Inc. has submitted a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the New York State DEC for its proposed landfill expansion. The 164-page document, filed on July 29, outlines plans to add 47 million cubic yards of air space and raise the landfill height by 70 feet.

FATAL WRECK: New York State Police are investigating a fatal one-car accident that occurred Wednesday morning on Maple Street in Lyons. Brandon Hunter, 26, of Williamson, was driving a 2006 Nissan northbound when his vehicle veered off the road, striking an embankment and rolling multiple times.
DRUG PRICE DROP: For the first time, Medicare has successfully negotiated lower prices for 10 high-cost prescription drugs, benefiting over 660,000 New York seniors, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced. The price reductions, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, will save New York seniors more than $1.5 billion annually in out-of-pocket costs when they take effect in 2026.
