Cayuga County is set to appoint Steve Lynch as county manager at its meeting later this month. Late-Thursday, we got word from Legislature Chair Aileen McNabb-Coleman that the appointment would take place February 29, 2024 at their next meeting. Lynch will fill a role that’s been vacant for nearly 5 years, but was identified as a priority throughout 2023. [Read More]
We’re hearing from more education leaders across the state sharing concern about Gov. Hochul’s proposal to cut school aid. The proposal would end ‘Save Harmless’ or ‘Hold Harmless’, which protects districts from reductions in foundation aid. [Read More]

And finally — a state audit by Comptroller Tom DiNapoli has confirmed what a local criminal court found: A former Marion Court Clerk misappropriated more than $60,000. The audit outcome was published by state officials, who noted the clerk previously pleaded guilty to an array of charges. She was sentenced to six months in jail and ordered to pay full-restitution. New Marion Town Supervisor Summer Johnson, who took office on Jan. 1, 2024, says she’s committed to ensuring all aspects of town operations are monitored closely moving forward. [Read More]
