The Waterloo Central School District is restarting its search for a new superintendent after the initial effort did not find a suitable candidate. The school board announced Wednesday that despite an extensive search with consultant Mike Ford, no candidate was selected. [Read More]
The Cayuga County Department of Motor Vehicles has temporarily moved to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building at 7445 County House Road due to the closure of the county office building. Two men were sentenced on Thursday for their roles in the September 2022 shooting death of William Waugh, a former Waterloo resident. Wayne Ellison Jr., who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in April, received a 20-year prison sentence. Christopher Kesterson, of Phelps, was acquitted of murder but was sentenced to 15 years in prison for weapons possession. [Read More]
Schuyler County historian Gary Emerson revealed a historic marker on Thursday honoring the Freer Opera House, now the site of Jerlando’s Ristorante. Built in 1860 by George Freer, the three-story building at Franklin and Fourth streets has hosted a variety of events, including conventions with speakers like Susan B.
