NYSCOPBA has rejected a proposed deal to end an 18-day strike, arguing that it was negotiated without proper union input. In response, the state is bypassing union leadership by offering individual officers a return-to-work agreement that reinstates health benefits and maintains certain staffing provisions, while also threatening termination and legal action against those who refuse. With a Friday deadline looming, officials warn that no further negotiations will take place, pressing officers to accept the offer or face consequences.
The Geneva City Council approved the sale of several city-owned properties, including an affordable housing project on Jackson Street, while also recognizing Women’s History Month and reaffirming support for LGBTQ+ rights. A financial report showed a smaller-than-expected budget deficit, and the Storm Task Force presented recommendations for improving stormwater infrastructure, though funding remains a challenge. Councilors also debated transparency versus administrative workload in information requests and approved resolutions on labor agreements, grant applications, and committee appointments.
Yates County’s Finance and Ad-Hoc Transportation committees unanimously endorsed Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority’s Regional Transit Service (RTS) as the county’s new public transportation provider. The decision, delayed from February pending the release of a private memo, was influenced by RTS’s strong service quality and its Dial-A-Ride program. The full Legislature is set to finalize the approval on Monday, officially bringing RTS to the county.
