First up, when a state agency is determined to keep secrets, it takes more than a village to pry them loose. Even the state Freedom of Information Law may not be enough. That’s the lesson the state Department of Environmental Conservation is impressing on the residents and public officials in Watkins Glen in a fight over a gravel pit. [READ MORE]
Next, in a remarkable show of community spirit and historical celebration, Orbaker’s Drive-In, a staple in the Williamson community since 1932, announced plans to remain open for 85 consecutive hours leading up to the solar eclipse. Winter Weather Advisory: 3-6 inches of snow for some, mixed precipitation for others
The calendar might say spring, but it’s going to feel like winter for the next 36 hours. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for an area-wide snow event that will bring accumulation to most places by early-Saturday.
Auburn Mayor Jimmy Giannettino and Cayuga County Legislature Chairwoman Aileen McNabb-Coleman demonstrated a unified front on economic development during their recent State of the City and County address. Hosted by the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce at Auburn Public Theater, the event highlighted their collaborative effort to enhance the local economy, amidst ongoing deliberations on the future of CEDA. Staying in Cayuga County, 23-year-old John T. Netti faces an upgraded charge of attempted murder following a February incident where he allegedly strangled a woman walking her dog in Sennett. Initially arrested for criminal obstruction of breathing, Netti’s charges were elevated to include second-degree attempted murder, as confirmed during a Cayuga County Court conference. [READ MORE]
And finally — Wegmans announced that its stores in the path of totality for the 2024 total solar eclipse will briefly close on April 8, from 3 to 3:30 p.m., to allow employees a unique opportunity to witness the celestial event. A total of 48 stores across upstate New York will participate in the temporary closure, pausing all operations including pharmacy services, grocery shopping, and Meals2Go pickups and deliveries during this period.
