FIRE & EXPLOSION: A Seneca Falls home was destroyed after an overnight fire on Clinton Street. Reports of an explosion were heard over the scanner as firefighters arrived on-scene. NEW MEXICAN RESTAURANT: More good news for folks who want more places to dine with friends, family, and co-workers: A new Mexican restaurant will open at the space previously occupied by Buffalo Wild Wings in Aurelius. GENEVA SCHOOL LOCKOUT: Three city schools were placed into lockout protocol as a precaution on Thursday after police began an investigation in the area. While there was no threat to students, faculty, or community, many parents were on edge — especially after student release was delayed during the afternoon. [READ MORE]
OFFICERS HURT AT FIVE POINTS: Four officers were hurt in two separate incidents at Five Points Correctional Facility last week. One of them had to be treated at an area hospital after suffering injuries to the face and eyes. Officials say the officer was attacked by an inmate who repeatedly punched him, causing orbital bone injuries, and blurry vision. [READ MORE]
ONTARIO COUNTY LANDFILL: The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has hit the Ontario County Landfill with an enforcement action. The action was announced against New England Waste Services of NY, Inc., Casella Waste Services of Ontario, LLC, and Ontario County to address several years of violations at the Ontario County Landfill in the town of Seneca. As part of a consent order, the facility owner and operators will pay a $500,000 civil penalty for violating the State Environmental Conservation Law and are required to implement comprehensive corrective actions to help prevent future violations at the facility.
