State lawmakers will address cannabis market rollout challenges at October hearing
New York State’s slow progress in the recreational cannabis market is set for a review as lawmakers schedule a public hearing in Albany on October 30. This comes after the state legalized recreational cannabis in March 2021. However, the actual rollout has faced legal challenges, particularly in the Finger Lakes region. A key setback occurred last month when a State Supreme Court judge paused the issuance of new cannabis licenses due to a lawsuit by four military veterans.
Ithaca mayor blasts Cornell University after PILOT negotiations stall: City’s 2024 budget remains in limbo
Ithaca Mayor Laura Lewis announced on Thursday, September 7 that financial negotiations between the City of Ithaca and Cornell University have stalled. These negotiations were part of the City’s goal of achieving an updated Payment In Lieu Of Taxes arrangement. Despite the economic benefits Cornell brings to the area, Mayor Lewis believes that Cornell’s financial commitments to the city are insufficient.
Seneca County IDA seeks public input on Willard redevelopment
The Seneca County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is gearing up for a second public engagement session on September 26, focusing on the future redevelopment of the Willard Drug Treatment campus in Romulus. Since the facility’s closure in March 2022, the Willard Taskforce, led by the IDA in collaboration with community stakeholders, has been proactively exploring potential future uses for the site. To facilitate this, the IDA has partnered with consulting firms, including MRB Group, EDR, Bero Architecture, and HRP Associates, to conduct a comprehensive “Highest & Best Use Study.”
