Wayne Supervisors Meet Tomorrow: What's On The Agenda?
The Wayne County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday morning in Lyons to address a wide-ranging agenda covering public safety, infrastructure, health services, and social programs. Key items include a public hearing on a new water law, the appointment of a new EMS coordinator, over $4.6 million in road projects, and funding measures for mental health and youth programs. The meeting will conclude with a presentation by the New York State Archivist and a tour of the county’s records facility.

Fast 5: What’s happening in the Finger Lakes?
Firefighters quickly contained a house fire in Moravia early Monday after flames spread from a porch into the side of the home. A second alarm was issued as conditions worsened, prompting response from multiple departments across the region. Crews from Genoa, Scipio, Groton, Fleming, Owasco, New Hope, and Springport assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The New York State Thruway generated a record $1.1 billion in revenue in 2024, fueled by toll increases and a rebound in passenger vehicle traffic. Passenger numbers surpassed pre-pandemic levels with over 338 million cars using the highway. Truck traffic stayed flat and dropped 3% at the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, raising concerns among officials. The revenue will help support a $2.7 billion statewide infrastructure improvement plan already in motion.
Cayuga County’s Government Operations and Planning Committees met last week to review department updates, facility moves, and salary proposals. A key focus was a proposed $35,000 raise for part-time election commissioners, which was referred to the Ways and Means Committee after debate. Updates included IT progress on office relocations and a new .gov domain, planning efforts tied to the Route 90 DRI, and veterans services activity. The Planning Committee also approved appointments and reviewed environmental and infrastructure projects, including ongoing work at Emerson Park.
A Bronx man is facing multiple felony charges in Wayne County for allegedly using fake identification to steal thousands from a credit union. Frank Torres, 65, was charged with identity theft, grand larceny, forgery, and falsifying business records following incidents at Reliant Credit Union branches in Newark and Macedon. Authorities say Torres withdrew $4,500 using false ID and attempted similar fraud elsewhere. He was arrested in New York City and transferred to the Wayne County Jail for arraignment.
Auburn school board member Freddie Wilson III has resigned due to health issues, creating a vacancy on the board. Wilson was elected in 2023 to a three-year term. The board initially considered a temporary appointment but learned state law would limit that role to just three meetings. Wilson’s seat will now be filled in the May 20 election, alongside three other open positions.
Victor Town Board To Consider Clerk Appointment, Connectivity Plan Tonight
The Victor Town Board will meet tonight at 7 p.m. to review financial audits, appointments, and planning items, with a livestream available on YouTube. Key agenda items include appointing Jenna Wernert as Deputy Town Clerk and Frank Mueller as ADA Compliance Officer. The board will also vote on a new trailer for the highway department, entertainment contracts for Parks & Rec, and a permit for alcohol at an upcoming event. Planning discussions will center on the Street Connectivity and Access Plan, with the board initiating SEQRA review and accepting two Letters of Credit tied to local developments.
Penn Yan Public Hearing on Water, Sewer Budgets And Local Law On Tap
The Penn Yan Village Board will hold a public hearing Tuesday on the proposed 2025–2026 water and sewer budgets, which include a 4.7% rate increase for residential users. The meeting will also feature votes on several public event approvals, legislative resolutions, and utility-related contracts, including a $34,500 reservoir project. Legislative action includes amendments to zoning boards, short-term rental inspections, and flood prevention regulations. Public safety reports, code enforcement updates, and a memorandum with Yates County for lifeguard funding will also be discussed.
REPORT: Wood-Fired Pizza Restaurant Could Open in Canandaigua
Ardor Park Artisanal Pizza, a well-known Rochester pizzeria, is planning to open a second location in downtown Canandaigua. Chef Kody Derhak aims to transform the former Thai By Night space into a 20-seat wood-fired pizza restaurant. The Canandaigua City Planning Commission has approved a special-use permit for the project. If all goes as planned, the restaurant will open later this year with a focus on unique pizzas and an open kitchen experience.
