Hochul Visits Finger Lakes Area on Monday
Governor Kathy Hochul will visit Foodlink in Rochester on Monday to address the delayed state budget and promote her 2025 Affordability Agenda. Despite the April 1 deadline, lawmakers have passed five temporary budget extensions as negotiations continue. Hochul says talks are nearing completion, with discovery law reforms among the unresolved issues.
Finger Lakes Forecast: Milder, drier week!
Showers and thunderstorms will dominate today and tonight across the Finger Lakes, with gusty winds and a high near 67. Drier weather returns Tuesday and Wednesday with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 60s. Another warmup arrives Thursday ahead of a chance for rain late Friday into Saturday.
Fast 5: What’s happening in the Finger Lakes?
The Seneca7 relay returns to the Finger Lakes on Sunday, April 27, with over 300 teams racing the 77.7-mile loop around Seneca Lake. Runners will start in waves from downtown Geneva, traveling counterclockwise through Watkins Glen and up the eastern shore throughout the day. Organizers urge caution on local roads and highlight strong community support, including volunteers and charity teams from across the region and beyond.
The Seneca County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday to review a wide range of proposals, including infrastructure contracts, budget amendments, and local policy updates. Key items include a budget adjustment affecting water and sewer districts, and new agreements for building maintenance, road equipment, and water treatment. The agenda also features public safety grant approvals, staffing requests, and two proposed local laws focused on occupancy tax updates and leadership stipends.
A grassroots group in Geneva is advocating for the revival of Castle Creek, a spring-fed stream that flows through the city into Seneca Lake. Friends of Castle Creek is pushing for ecological restoration, public access, and the uncovering of buried creek sections to reconnect residents with the waterway. The effort combines environmental goals with community development, envisioning trails, green infrastructure, and a public center dedicated to watershed education.
Cayuga County will lease office space at Cayuga Community College for $75,000 annually, replacing a more expensive $900,000 arrangement at 63 Genesee St. The move supports the relocation of several departments, including the clerk’s office and human resources, due to asbestos concerns in the county office building. Public operations at the new CCC location are set to begin June 2.
Wayne County businesses are preparing for rising costs and supply disruptions following a 145% tariff on Chinese imports announced by the Trump administration. While tech products are exempt, local sectors like auto sales, construction, energy, and food are already seeing early impacts. Industry leaders warn that higher prices and limited availability could affect everything from vehicle sales to grocery store staples.
