Person rescued after falling through ice in Yates County pond
Emergency crews in Yates County successfully rescued a person who fell through the ice on a pond in the Town of Milo on Saturday afternoon. Penn Yan Fire Department personnel, using cold-water rescue suits, pulled the victim from the icy water and began CPR before transporting them to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital. Multiple agencies, including the New York State Police and Branchport Fire Department Dive Team, assisted at the scene. Officials urge residents to use extreme caution around frozen ponds and lakes, as ice conditions remain unpredictable.

Strong winds and rain showers are expected across the region today, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph in parts of WNY if you’re traveling. A second storm system will bring more rain on Tuesday before transitioning to snow by Wednesday, marking the start of a prolonged lake-effect snow event. Winter Storm Watches are already in place for areas east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
