Rescue teams respond to multiple gorge emergencies in Ithaca
Ithaca emergency crews faced a series of intense rescue operations early Sunday. At 1:10 a.m., local police, firefighters, and medics responded to reports of a person who had fallen near the Stewart Avenue bridge over Fall Creek. Around mid-morning, responders returned to the gorge for an unrelated call, leading to the recovery of a deceased individual. A final search near Giles Street for another potential jumper turned up empty.

South Seneca Ambulance issued a clarification on Friday following an article in the Interlaken Review, managed by the Ithaca Times, that mistakenly reported a $900,000 grant had been received by the organization for a new ambulance station. A 50-year-old Port Byron man was arrested following a stabbing that left a victim with multiple injuries in Union Springs, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck. Deputies discovered a 42-year-old male victim suffering from several stab wounds. The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he is in stable condition. [Read More]
After 30 years of leasing and maintaining the Health Services Building in Lyons, Wayne County is paying $5.3 million to assume ownership of the facility from the Town of Lyons, despite not initially owning it. The Finger Lakes Times reports that although the county has covered construction, maintenance, and utility costs for decades, the building’s title was held by the town due to the financing structure from 30 years ago. Buffalo also improved to 8-2 for the first time since 1993, extended their win streak to five straight, and scored 30 or more points in a game for the seventh time this season, the most in the NFL.
