Cause ‘unknown’ of landslide at Ontario County Landfill; no waste escaped facility, Casella says
Peter Mantius reports on the latest from the town of Seneca where a landslide at the Casella-operated Ontario County Landfill prompted a lot of attention at the end of the week. The incident, which was reported through a press release at the end of the week, took place between Tuesday and Wednesday, and crews worked extensively over the weekend to fix the 3.5-acre slide. As of now, the cause of the incident, which took place at an area not actively worked, is unknown.

Is the Finger Lakes headed toward a healthcare crisis? The short-answer might be yes if a deal isn’t reached between WellNow Urgent Care and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. The latter says it won’t boost reimbursement rates, and WellNow officials are NOT optimistic about one coming together. It has set up a scenario where the urgent care chain that operates dozens of clinics in healthcare deserts across the region will have to stop accepting one of the most-popular health insurance providers in Upstate New York. Dino Babers is OUT as head coach of the Syracuse Orange football team. Kyle Evans had that news Sunday afternoon after the University announced that it would be parting ways with Babers after eight seasons. [Read More]
Wayne County Sheriff Rob Milby says his office is investigating a fatal hunting accident that happened early-Saturday. It was opening weekend that ended in tragedy in the town of Savannah. The victim was identified as a Wayne County man, but additional details have not yet been released. [Read More]
State police are continuing their investigation into a fatal hit-and-run accident in the town of Bath. The incident shut down part of I-86, and while the victim has been identified — the suspect remains at-large. [Read More]
And finally, Penn Yan residents saw an active scene Saturday night as police responded to a report of a possible shooting at the Hampton Inn. No threats were found and the scene was returned to normal activity within a couple hours. The incident and police presence led to a spree of social media posts from local residents who feared a worse outcome. [Read More]
Bills roll past Jets to snap two-game skid
Josh Allen threw for three touchdowns, and the defense forced four turnovers as the Buffalo Bills rolled to a 32-6 victory over the New York Jets at Highmark Stadium on Sunday, snapping a two-game skid and improving to 6-5. The new Joe Brady-led offense had nearly 400 yards of total offense, led by Allen’s 275 passing yards. The Bills put points on the board on six of their first eight drives of the game and punted just three times overall.
