First responders kept busy on Sunday in Seneca County
Firefighters from multiple departments were dispatched to a trio of incidents Sunday, beginning with an apartment fire at Park Place Apartments along Bayard St.
No injuries were reported in that incident, but photos from the scene show heavy damage to the inside of the unit. [See the photos here]
Hours later crews were called to a major structure fire on Ovid St. in the former village. One person was brought to safety by first responders, but once again, the single-family residence suffered serious damage. [Latest updates from officials]
Then firefighters were brought back out to a different part of Bayard St. for a major vehicle fire. Photos from the scene show a small sedan fully-engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported. [See the photos]

The Wayne County Historical Society is reviving its acclaimed play A Tea Out of Time with two performances at Gates Hall in Pultneyville. Showings are scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The play, originally written by the late Larry Ann Evans and Linda Stevenson, commemorates the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New York State. A Newfield man faces life imprisonment after being convicted of murder and kidnapping charges in Tioga County Court. Joseph Howell, 38, was found guilty on Friday for the abduction and murder of Thomas Rath, an Ithaca resident, in 2023. Howell’s charges include first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and three counts of witness intimidation. [More]
Second Baptist Church of Walworth is gearing up for its annual Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Packing Party, set for Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Located at 3689 Main St., the event invites volunteers to pack boxes filled with school supplies, toys, hygiene products, and clothing for children in need worldwide. [More]
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on a crash that happened along State route 96 in Victor over the weekend. On Sunday around 11 a.m. first responders from the sheriff’s office, Fishers Fire Department, and Victor Farmington Ambulance responded to the area of Turk Hill Rd. and Eastview Mall for the report of a crash with unknown injuries.
