Resident and dog rescued from Phelps house fire; multiple agencies respond
A house fire on Route 14 in Phelps prompted a large emergency response on Saturday evening, with the Oaks Corners Fire Department leading the operation. The fire, reported at 5:35 p.m., drew numerous calls from residents. A passing first responder from Brockport entered the burning home and rescued a resident and their dog.

A 25-year-old man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after crashing his car into a home in Manchester late Saturday night. State police say the driver was heading down Miner Road when he ran through the intersection at State Route 21, left the road, and slammed into a nearby house. [Read More]
Authorities in Ontario County responded to a distressing animal cruelty case in West Bloomfield after a dog was found living in filthy conditions inside a camper. The 9–10-year-old Poodle mix, later identified as Lucky, was discovered covered in fleas and gnats, with no access to food or water, and suffering from an untreated abscess. [Read More]
On Sunday multiple fire departments responded to a structure fire in Seneca Falls. The Seneca Falls Fire Department, along with mutual aid from Fayette, Waterloo, Geneva, North Seneca Ambulance, and Seneca Falls Police, were dispatched to the scene after reports of heavy smoke inside the single-story residence. The Fleming Fire Department has updated the date for its special election regarding the purchase of a new rescue pumper. The vote will now take place on Tuesday, September 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Fleming Station 1, located at 6063 West Lake Road. [Read More]

Bills overcome early double-digit deficit, hold off Cardinals 34-28 in season opener
Josh Allen threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the Buffalo Bills to a 34-28 season-opening victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium. Buffalo trailed 10-0 through the first 16 minutes of the game and 17-3 with 2:46 left in the second quarter but scored 21 unanswered points to take the lead late in the third quarter and never looked back despite Arizona making a late push.

Cornell’s synthetic turf project approved despite major environmental concerns

Audit finds Hammondsport schools lack comprehensive financial plans
A recent audit by the New York State Comptroller’s Office revealed that Hammondsport Central School District failed to establish comprehensive multiyear financial and capital plans. The report, covering the period from July 1, 2020, to April 22, 2024, found that district officials exceeded the 4% statutory limit on surplus fund balance, maintaining levels more than three times the allowed amount. Additionally, $1.4 million in reserves were found to be unnecessary.
