Clifton Springs home badly damaged by late-night fire; Red Cross helping displaced residents
First responders say a house fire broke out on Pleasant Street in the Village of Clifton Springs on Sunday evening. According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, first responders arrived at the scene around 7:51 PM and observed flames coming from the second floor of the residence. All occupants were safely evacuated from the building before firefighters contained the blaze to the second floor.

The Finger Lakes Land Trust sold 213 acres of the former Bell Station property to AES for solar energy development, merging conservation with renewable energy. The land, next to the defunct Milliken Station coal plant in Lansing, was acquired from New York State Electric & Gas along with 287 acres featuring over 3,000 feet of undeveloped Cayuga Lake shoreline. The Canandaigua Town Board will discuss a proposal for the Uptown Landing mixed-use development during its Monday meeting. Developer Jeff Cook’s project, located north of Blue Heron Park and east of Firehall Road, would feature retail and office space, rental apartments, townhomes, and single-family homes. [More]
Ithaca investment banker Dr. Alan Biloski has proposed repurposing the recently closed Wells College into a boarding school for K-12 students. The Auburn Citizen reports Biloski’s plan suggests options including international students or low-income rural children, modeled after schools like Milton Hershey School and Keystone Academy. [More]
Teamsters Local 317 members at BorgWarner’s Lansing plant are heading back to work after ratifying a third tentative contract, ending a two-week strike. Workers voted over the weekend to approve the four-year deal, which includes 6%, 5%, 5%, and 5% wage increases each year, a $5,500 bonus, and expanded vacation time for long-term employees. [More]
