New York DMV tightens rules for repeat impaired drivers: “Forfeit after Four”
New York State has introduced the “Forfeit after Four” policy, permanently revoking licenses after four impaired driving offenses. The threshold was previously set at five, with stricter consequences also applying to drivers with serious infractions. These changes aim to improve road safety by keeping repeat offenders off the roads.

LAKE EFFECT SNOW GETS GOING
Residents in the Finger Lakes can expect seasonably cold temperatures with lake-effect snow persisting through Sunday, bringing hazardous travel conditions in some areas. Snowfall will be lighter off Lake Erie, with 2-4 inches expected today and 1-3 inches tonight, mainly in higher elevations. However, areas southeast of Lake Ontario, including northern Cayuga and Oswego counties, could see 1-2 feet of snow through Sunday morning, with intense snowfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour at times. Strong winds gusting up to 40 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow, making travel challenging, especially along Route 104.
Fast 5: What’s happening in the Finger Lakes?
A GoFundMe has been launched to support Andrea Pagano, who was injured in a Canandaigua bar shooting. Pagano faces extensive recovery, including reconstructive surgery, and is unable to care for her two sons. Donations will help cover medical expenses and daily necessities during her healing process.
Captain Matthew Androsko has been named Auburn's next police chief, set to take over on January 21. Androsko, a department veteran since 2007, brings experience from roles in narcotics, hostage negotiations, and gun violence reduction. He succeeds retiring Chief James Slayton, ensuring a smooth leadership transition.
New York Thruway now bans drivers with significant unpaid tolls from its 570-mile highway system. State Police will enforce the rule using license plate scanners, targeting repeat violators. Out-of-state trucking companies remain the largest offenders, with one Montreal firm owing over $500,000.
Goodwill has ended senior and military discounts, shifting focus to its Perks Plus loyalty program. The change eliminates popular promotions like tag sales and customer appreciation events. Shoppers can now earn and redeem rewards exclusively through the free Perks Plus program.
Mary Anne Krupsak, New York's first female lieutenant governor, has died at 92. Serving from 1975 to 1978, she broke barriers in state politics and played a key role in saving Radio City Music Hall. Her legacy spans public service, law, and business in the Finger Lakes region.
