Geneva Police Chief Matt Colton remains on paid administrative leave with no changes to his employment status, city officials confirmed late this week. After a legal journey spanning over four years, Gage Ashley, 26, was found guilty in Cayuga County Court for the 2019 murder of Joshua Poole. Ashley was convicted on second-degree murder, among other charges, but acquitted of first-degree murder. Lyons’ state title run ends in Class C semifinal
The Lyons Lions state title run came to an end on Friday night as they fell 56-45 to Section IV’s Moravia in the Class C Final Four at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls. Lyons led 15-10 after eight minutes, but things changed in the second quarter as Moravia went on a run to take a four-point lead at halftime and never looked back. The Lions scored just 16 points in the second and third quarters combined and did not have their big man Jamire Johnson for the entire fourth as he fouled out.

It was a close contest for the first 16 minutes as Friends Academy (20-5) held a 14-13 lead after the first quarter and a 24-21 lead at halftime. However, it was a different game in the second half as Wayne’s (24-2) Cam Blankenberg came out on fire, scoring 11 of the Eagles 15 points in the third quarter and 15 of the 25 in the fourth, helping Wayne pull away for the victory. The Eagles outscored the Quakers 40-24 in the second half.
