Auburn driver arrested after striking, killing pedestrian Friday afternoon
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car Friday afternoon in Auburn, according to city police. Authorities identified the driver as Christopher Dewitt, who allegedly ran a stop light before his mid-sized sedan veered into the oncoming lane on North Street at the Lansing Street intersection. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the woman, who was walking west across the street, police said.

Two people have been arrested in connection with a shooting that happened last month in Geneva. Erica Marie White, 32, and Tyler Armond Liberatore, 28, both of Geneva, were arrested on Friday and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a Class C felony, police said. Liberatore is a convicted felon.
Newark Wayne Community Hospital dispelled rumors that the county’s only hospital was considering closure. Rumors had been circulating for weeks on social media that Rochester Regional Health was considering its closure. However, officials confirmed late this week that this wasn’t the case. They explained the recent decision to temporarily limit beds at the facility.
New York’s recently expanded wetland regulations have sparked criticism from property owners, developers, and some lawmakers, who argue the measures represent overreach by state government and will stifle economic growth. Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay is among the law’s detractors, calling it another example of Albany’s “heavy hand” interfering with private property rights and local economies.
Two people were transported to the hospital Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of State Route 5&20 and Parrish Street. No serious injuries were reported. However, two were sent to the hospital—including an infant—for evaluation.
