ANALYSIS: New York State needs new school funding formula
After 17 years, the state of New York is re-evaluating its school funding formula. The state budget agreement calls for the Rockefeller Institute to study it. Education advocates have noted that learning loss from the pandemic and the youth mental-health crisis have made this change more necessary. Randi Levine, policy director at Advocates for Children of New York, said the new formula must allocate funds for homeless students and students in the foster-care system.

Emergency crews responded late Friday night to a serious tractor-trailer rollover on State Route 54A in the Town of Jerusalem, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office. Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield is set to increase premiums for about 12% of its customers after receiving approval from New York State regulators. Seneca Park Zoo welcomes two new Masai giraffes
The Seneca Park Zoo has added two young Masai giraffes to its tower, expanding its conservation efforts for this endangered species. A one-year-old male named Elliot and a three-year-old female named Kura were transferred from San Diego Zoo Safari Park as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan.
