Mozaic Unveils Fully Inclusive Community Arts and Technology Center in Auburn
Mozaic, serving the Arc of Seneca, Cayuga, Yates, and Tompkins counties, celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated Center for Community Arts and Technology (CCAT) in Auburn on August 28. The event, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, drew over 100 visitors eager to explore the $2.8 million facility, which aims to bridge the gap between the community and individuals with disabilities and other barriers.

MOSQUITO CONCERNS: As Labor Day weekend arrives, Governor Kathy Hochul is urging New Yorkers to take precautions against mosquito bites to protect themselves from West Nile virus (WNV) and other mosquito-borne diseases. With 20 cases of West Nile virus already reported statewide, the Governor emphasized the importance of prevention as the most effective way to avoid these serious illnesses.
LIGHT UP THE LAKE: The annual “Ring of Fire,” marking the unofficial end of summer, will light up Canandaigua Lake tonight at dusk. Residents will place environmentally safe, battery-powered LED lights along the shoreline, continuing the tradition with a modern twist.
HEROISM IN WHITMAN: Senator Helming presented the New York State Senate Liberty Medal to Wendy Boyer, a teacher aide at Marcus Whitman Central School District, for her heroic actions that saved the life of a student. The Liberty Medal, the highest civilian honor awarded by the New York State Senate, recognizes individuals for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts.
MORE BLOOMS: Owasco Lake is facing a surge in Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), with over a dozen reported to the Department of Environmental Conservation this week. Most blooms are concentrated in the lake’s northeast portion, with some spotted in central and southern areas.
AREA RECOGNITION: The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the prestigious Schuyler Tributes Awards on August 29, 2024, at Veraisons at the Inn at Glenora Wine Cellars. The annual event recognized the exceptional achievements of local businesses and individuals who have significantly contributed to Schuyler County’s economic growth and community development.
