A convicted rapist, his girlfriend, and a teenage girl were arrested in New York for plotting to assassinate the judge and prosecutors who handled his trial. Alexander Kise, 21, and Alydia Gater, 22, faced felony charges including attempted murder and conspiracy, after authorities uncovered their plan during Kise’s trial for rape earlier this year in Ontario County Court. A 16-year-old girl was also charged with similar counts but her identity remains protected under state law. [READ MORE]
What’s trending in the Finger Lakes?
The Great New York State Fair announced a return to its pre-pandemic admission and parking prices, setting tickets at $8 and parking at $12. Last year, attendees paid $6 for admission and $10 for parking. This adjustment brings the prices back in line with rates charged before the pandemic, although still slightly lower than the $9 ticket price that was standard from 2003 to 2019. [READ MORE]
The Yates County Sheriff’s Office says one person was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital after a crash on Friday around 9 p.m. on State Route 230. According to a news release, Morley Mason, 25, of Depew, New York was traveling on Route 250 in Barrington when his vehicle crossed the center line while heading south and lost control. [READ MORE]
Warm weather lasts through work week across the Finger Lakes

A Syracuse man, Nathan L. Howard, was sentenced Thursday to serve between 1.5 and 3 years in prison for setting fire to a car in Auburn last year. Cayuga County Court Judge Thomas Leone also ordered Howard to pay $9,893.30 in restitution to the victim’s insurance company. Howard had pleaded guilty to fourth-degree arson, a reduction from the more severe third-degree arson charge, in January. [READ MORE]
Seneca County and County Treasurer Les Marquart have been sued by two LLCs concerning the sale of tax-delinquent properties during auctions in 2020 and 2022. The legal action was initiated in U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York on March 12, by attorneys representing WCMGC LLC and Maxim Development Group LLC. [READ MORE]
Last year, the Auburn Police Department recorded the lowest number of emergency calls in over a decade, a decline attributed to effective community partnerships. Cornell Claims Third-Straight Ivy Title With Win at Dartmouth
A win in the woods would make Cornell men’s lacrosse the Ivy League outright regular season champions. A win is what the men’s lacrosse team got. The Big Red topped Dartmouth, 15-10, on Scully-Fahey Field on Saturday evening in the final Ivy League regular season game. The win moved the Big Red to 9-4 (5-1 Ivy) while Dartmouth fell to 3-10 (0-6 Ivy). [READ MORE]

Seven candidates on the ballot for Waterloo school board
Seven candidates have officially entered the race for three available seats on the Waterloo Board of Education, as confirmed by the filing deadline on Monday.
