Middlesex residents grapple with flooding after remnants of Debby dump 4+ inches of rain
Although the skies have cleared, the aftermath of Tropical Storm Debby continues to trouble residents in Middlesex, where heavy rains led to significant flooding. This marks the third time families in Middlesex have dealt with such flooding, each incident bringing the frustration of insurance claims and repairs.

PHELPS MUSIC FEST: The 7th annual Music for Mom festival, a benefit event supporting the Music Therapy program at Golisano Children’s Hospital, will take place on September 20-21, 2024, at Crafty Ales & Lagers in Phelps, NY. The festival honors the memory of Lee Huntley and features live music, art demonstrations, and local food vendors.
COURT APPEARANCE: Patrick Dai, a Cornell University student arrested last year for making antisemitic threats online, is set to be sentenced on Monday in Syracuse. The case has drawn attention to Dai's mental health, as both prosecutors and defense attorneys acknowledge his struggles, including a recent autism diagnosis.
MEETING PREVIEW: The Seneca County Board of Supervisors is set to convene on August 13 with a packed agenda, addressing significant issues ranging from public health services to county infrastructure. The meeting, which will take place at the Seneca County Office Building in Waterloo will see the board making decisions on several key resolutions that impact the community.
ROAD WORK: A section of Route 34 in Brutus will be closed on Monday, August 14, for paving work on the bridge over the Seneca River. The New York State Department of Transportation announced the closure will affect the stretch between Ditmar and Stickle roads from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
FOR BILLS MAFIA: Bills fans are invited to kick off the 2024 NFL season at the 4th Annual Regular Season Rager, hosted by 24/7 Buf Fandemonium and FLX Mafia. The event will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Reinvention Brewing in Manchester.
Elderly man hospitalized after single-vehicle Waterloo crash
Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reported that an 80-year-old Waterloo man was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Waterloo Geneva Road. Deputies responded to the scene around 6:39 p.m. and found James Cuson suffering from minor back and abdominal pain.
