DRY START, DAMP FINISH ACROSS PARTS OF THE FINGER LAKES
Dry weather will continue through Sunday morning in the Finger Lakes and Central New York as high pressure moves eastward. By Sunday afternoon, light rain and a wintry mix will spread across the region, with snow possible in higher elevations of the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes. Precipitation will taper off by Monday morning, giving way to a brief period of dry weather before more widespread rain arrives Monday night. Temperatures will climb into the 40s on Monday, with breezy to windy conditions expected, especially along the Lake Erie shoreline.
Fast 5: What’s happening in the Finger Lakes?
The Wayne County Board of Supervisors will discuss proposed salary increases for key officials, including the county administrator and sheriff. Budget amendments for daycare assistance, infrastructure projects, and workers’ compensation insurance are also on the agenda. Residents are encouraged to attend the Dec. 17 meeting to provide input on these fiscal decisions.
Starting in 2025, Canandaigua City Council meetings will move from Thursdays to Mondays to improve efficiency and avoid conflicts with local events. The new schedule aims to boost public attendance and engagement. The changes will be posted on the city’s website and social media.
The Yates County Legislature approved contracts to enhance cyber security, including $30,075 for 24/7 IT monitoring and $19,874 for a new network access system. Additional funding was approved for community services and a temporary clerk position for the Sheriff’s Office. These measures aim to protect vital services and improve operational efficiency.
Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed a $3 billion “Inflation Refund” to ease financial burdens on New Yorkers, offering one-time checks of up to $500. Critics, like Sen. Tom O’Mara, argue the plan is a short-term fix and call for permanent tax cuts and spending reforms. The debate highlights concerns over affordability and New York's economic policies.
The Pizza Hut in Sennett may relocate across Grant Avenue to a new 2,400-square-foot location with a drive-thru. The new design will feature digital kiosks and a “Hut ‘N Go” menu for faster pickups. The proposal will be reviewed by Cayuga County officials on December 19.
