A long-abandoned school in Scipio may soon become a boutique hotel and winery cooperative led by Dr. Chris Colloca of Colloca Estate Winery. Plans include converting classrooms into 50-60 hotel rooms, transforming the gym into a ballroom, and creating meeting spaces. If awarded a $1 million state grant, renovations could begin immediately.
Geneva police are continuing an investigating into a downtown burglary where over $1,000 in cash was stolen from Hernandez Mexican Store early Friday morning. The suspect, wearing a mask, gloves, and multiple layers of clothing, forced entry around 4:30 a.m., causing over $500 in damage. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Geneva Police Department.
A Victor man has been acquitted in the fatal stabbing of Adam Record, with both legal teams expressing respect for the jury's decision. Ontario County District Attorney Jim Ritts stated that Record’s girlfriend would not face charges, as her actions didn’t meet the legal threshold for criminal responsibility. Jakob Chittenden, now 22, is focused on rebuilding his life after the jury deemed his actions justified.
A Canandaigua man was arrested for aggravated DWI after a crash on County Road 10 Saturday evening, authorities said. Deputies reported that Jared Robert Johncox, 30, had a blood alcohol content of 0.23%, nearly three times the legal limit, after striking another vehicle. No injuries were reported, and Johncox is set to appear in Canandaigua Town Court at a later date.
A Palmyra man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after crashing his plow-equipped pickup truck and injuring a pedestrian in Canandaigua on Saturday. Authorities say Cory Daniel Ridley, 41, veered off County Road 16, striking two parked vehicles and a pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, while Ridley was charged with DWI and released on traffic tickets.
