When Summer Johnson ran for Marion Town Supervisor, she did so knowing that the community her family calls home needed someone dedicated. “I was called to action,” Johnson said of her decision to run. In November, she was elected, and after being in office for a little more than a month – focus has shifted to finding ways to help better the community.
The Department of Justice has arrested James Weeks, a 55-year-old man from Sodus, for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol breach. Weeks was captured in security and body camera footage on Capitol grounds, where he identified himself as “Jim Weeks.” He is accused of entering the Capitol, assaulting a Metropolitan Police officer, and actively participating in the violence that day. Fabian Rivera, the former chief of the Macedon Police Department, entered a plea of not guilty to two DWI charges in Walworth Town Court. The charges stem from an incident in November where Rivera allegedly crashed a patrol vehicle near Gananda school grounds and later drove under the influence in his personal car. [Read More]
New York’s Legislature will take up several bills regarding forever chemicals. The bills would eliminate unnecessary per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances or PFAS in household items such as cosmetics, menstrual products, and others. Legislation will also focus on removing PFAS from waterways as well. [Read More]

Syracuse holds off Louisville to snap two-game skid
The Syracuse Orange got back in the win column on Wednesday night at the JMA Wireless Dome, holding off the Louisville Cardinals 94-92 to snap a two-game skid. With the victory, Syracuse moved to 15-8 on the season, 6-6 in ACC play, and 11-1 at home. Chris Bell led four Syracuse players in double figures with a career-high 30 points. Judah Mintz netted 21, JJ Starling poured in 19, and Maliq Brown added 11.
